Catfish B250K Large Linear Potentiometer
with split shaft large housing.Economy version, with corrugated axle Made by Alpha in Korea.
A 250K linear potentiometer is less commonly used for volume and tone controls in electric guitars compared to a logarithmic (audio taper) pot, but it does have specific uses and effects, particularly for players who prefer a different feel in their controls.
A linear taper potentiometer changes its resistance at a constant rate as you turn the knob. This means the volume increases or decreases linearly with the rotation of the knob, but this does not match the way our ears perceive sound. For volume control, many guitarists find that a linear pot feels abrupt, especially in the middle of the knob’s range.
A 250K linear pot for tone control behaves differently than a logarithmic one. Since the resistance changes linearly, you may feel that the tone doesn’t roll off smoothly. Most of the noticeable treble reduction might happen at the lower end of the knob (between 0 and 3), with very little change in the upper range (from 7 to 10).
Linear pots are used fro Blender or balance controls In some custom guitar wiring setups, or Some guitarists simply prefer the behavior of a linear pot for players who want quick tone changes or don’t need as much fine control over volume might prefer linear pots.
Just like a 250K logarithmic pot, a 250K linear pot is typically used with single-coil pickups, as it helps to tame the brightness of these pickups.
